Each child decorated a tiny pot and filled it with a mixture of sand and dirt. They chose a leaf or two from one of our two class jades, a 'tall or trailing' variety and placed it on top of the dirt mix. We set our pots in the window sill for sun light, tend sparingly with water and watch for tiny sprouts to pop and create a new, baby plant! Enjoy a video montage of our week 3:

We had a great first week of preschool with friends old and new. We are getting to know each other through play, art and talking. For a few, it is the first, longest time being away from the known comforts of home and family. For others, the art, music and play choices are familiar and evolving with a mastery of skills and new playmates. For all of us, our work is play and creating a sense of belonging for each child in the room. A few books we read about feelings, being yourself and living in community with each other:We will continue to care for our caterpillars and chrysalises, being careful not to disturb the hanging chrysalis while we provide fresh milkweed for our hungry, hungry caterpillars!
