Homemade Play Dough is fun and easy to make together! Here's what you need: 1 cup flour 1/3 cup salt 1 Tbsp oil 2 tsp cream of tartar 1 cup water food coloring This recipe makes a batch about the size of a softball. If you'd like more, it's easily doubled. Remember to wash your hands! Put all the ingredients together in a pot on the stove. Kids can do this part before the heat is turned on. Start with just a few drops of food coloring, you can always add more. Easier said than done when you have a squeeze-happy kiddo helping! Mix everything together - add more food coloring if you aren't pleased with the color. Time to turn on the heat! I usually start with the flame set to medium, then turn low as things start to come together. Stir continuously and the mixture will start to thicken. Keep stirring - there's *always* a moment when I think I've messed it up because the mixture is too sticky. Don't forget to scrape the sides and the bottom of the pan as you go. Keep going until it all clumps together, then turn off the heat and dump out the play dough. I like to leave mine on a piece of wax paper to cool. You did it! Now store between play times in an airtight container or ziploc bag. I've been using this recipe for years and love it. You could make red, yellow, and blue batches and then have fun with color mixing!
