Fall 2017
Many of the children in our class love to play with trains, cars, trucks, and especially our set of metal airplanes. As the weeks went on, we decided that our play kitchen should be transformed into an airport. We made a list of things that should be included in an airport, and we created clouds and added a map to enhance the space. We think an airport has: helicopters airplanes cages for animals jjets traps for birds fuel/gas tank luggage belt runway Our airport has been busy with planning and piloting flights, often to the most popular destination - Florida. We have also been measuring with rulers, fixing and building with our tool set, arranging flight times with our magnetic letters, and creating and taking tickets with stamps, markers, and hole punches. After we had so much fun playing airport, we decided it would be awesome to visit a real airport! We were lucky have the opportunity to visit our local Iowa City Airport. We got to see a jet take off, and climb into a real jet for an up-close look. We also learned about all the different air crafts that land in Iowa City - including training flights, refueling helicopters, flights taking patients to and from the hospital, and the busy airport on Hawkeye football days. When we returned from the field trip, we looked through our photos and wrote a book about the experience.
