Children in the 3-Day Class come to Preucil on Mon/Wed/Fri. Each day is an exciting adventure for all Preucil has to offer--art, music, play, outdoors, cooking, stories, and more. Because children learn best through play, there is a large time allocated for playtime. Early in our morning, we have a morning meeting where we come together to discuss the day's activities and projects. Children are then given the opportunity to explore and investigate projects, the art studio, and play materials, Children have music everyday (Mon/Fri with Marit, Wed with Lauren), experiencing the joy of music and developing basic music competence. The art studio is open during the morning for creative expression and guided exploration. Outdoor time is an important time for using big body movements, exploring nature, or quiet reflection in our green space. Developing friendships and the important social skills of negotiation and compassion happens as we learn and play together. Over the course of the year, we engage in multiple in-depth projects that extend over time, some of which are documented below.

We had a busy month in 3 day! Play: We focused on larger, mobile building parts in our stage space. We brought out the 'big' wooden blocks, giant tinker toys and cardboard mondo building blocks. This was a fun way to mix up our indoor play area and work collaboratively, sharing space and materials for a common goal! Guests: We were lucky to have Smitha, who teaches classical Indian dance at the University of Iowa visit our classroom. She read a book and taught us about the Hindu holiday, Diwali. Diwali is commonly referred to as the festival of lights in India and is celebrated by many as the victory of light over darkness. She read us a story, danced and even shared homemade kulfi, a sweet carrot milk drink called kulfi and a fudge like treat called barfi. We made Indian-Inspired beaded door decorations and will continue to make art influenced by what we learned. Projects: We are writing individual and small group books, modeled by the fiction and non-fiction books we read in our class every day. We will include photographs, hand drawn or painted illustrations and text. Each book will have a subject or theme we collect images around and then we begin to build our book. Here is a preview on a book about friendship: We ended the month with our annual Halloween parade. This month, the snow fell before Halloween, so we were happy to celebrate in costume in Walder Hall. We were lead by our beloved Marit, in a Twinkle theme march, followed by treats with our families and afternoon friends! Monster Teachers:
